Task 1d
As a professional dancer social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are a fantastic way to build and showcase your portfolio. I frequently upload photos on Instagram sharing my dance journey as well as video footage from performances and classes that I have participated in. Web 2.0 is easily accessible from individuals with similar interests and can be a positive way of visually self-promoting yourself. It is a user-friendly and enjoyable way to connect, network and keep in touch with others. Social media is free advertisement to anyone wishing to promote themselves it is also simple and not time consuming. When contacting someone via email you do not receive much insight into a persons background and may not even know what the person you are connecting with looks like. Through the use of Instagram the consumer can get to know you on a more personal less formal level. It has the ability to show to the process from rehearsals to backstage footage leading into the finished product of a performance as opposed to solely the final product. Allowing the consumer this additional experience enables them to become much more invested and aware of just how much is involved in creating the end result.
Personally, I gain a lot of motivation by scrolling through the Instagram accounts of the seasoned professionals I aspire to. I am able to view their rehearsals, performances and even what they eat for lunch! Not only do I enjoy this because ballet is a huge part of my life, but it also helps me improve as an artist by taking note of the warmup exercises principal dancers execute to prepare for certain roles I am able to acknowledge how this benefits their performance.
