Task 2b

Task 2b

By critically reflecting different ways of writing a journal based upon the Reid and Moon framework I have discovered that using a combination of

  • Description - Events that occurred throughout my day including where and when.
  • Initial Reflection - How did i feel about the event?
  • Evaluation - What did i think went well? Did I learn anything new?

has been most beneficial to myself.  However, I have also consciously tried out other alternative methods throughout this learning process and found that each way resulted into varied depths of emotion. Somedays I write about the whole day and others just about one event.

''Reflection and Reflexivity are the essential elements of reflective practice'' (Bleakley, 1999, p.317)

Using lists one day I separated it into the places I was throughout the day and wrote my feelings at each location, this helped me see where my feelings changed and think about what made this happen. Writing in list form although using less words I actually found that I spent more time exploring my thoughts on a more personal level.
The techniques mentioned above help me to reflect my best when trying to express myself. After
also using Graphs /Charts and ‘What If’ scenarios I discovered these methods were not beneficial in helping me to reflect and get to know myself. Focusing on a 'what if' can be rather intimidating and I often feel that I should not be imagining something really great happening and the thought of looking into what could have gone wrong can also seem daunting if you have to repeat it again, a performance or audition for example.

Ethical Considerations
When considering ethics here I feel my journal entries are too personal to me and therefore not appropriate to be posted on a public forum. Klobs Learning Cycle from Readers 2, and how different people learn in different ways,

I firstly looked at myself and reviewed how I learn, Reflective Observation is something I use almost daily, this relates to dance a lot as I see someone do a movement/step then copy what they have done, this also relates to my blog. In the beginning I was unsure where to start my blog so I used reflective observation and active experimentation to give me guidance throughout the process. Klob's learning cycle made me realise that I need to be mindful when working with my colleagues, take into consideration different learning stages and have more patience overall, The unsettling thoughts and feelings I had are not because of a certain situation but because everyone is different.

Concluding the experience
This task has been the most rewarding so far and will help me move forward as a performer, teacher and aspiring individual.
