‘Don’t run before you can walk’ / ‘Don’t judge it, Don’t critique it whilst you’re in it’ is what I have learnt following Tuesday’s discussion group. It was useful to find that I wasn’t the only Module 3 student unsure where to go next. Harry expressed a similar scenario where everything from module 2 easily fell into place and it feels as though we put everything into it, how do we progress and incorporate this into module 3 without simply copying and pasting.

It was wonderful to hear from Amanda who is now also going into module 3 after a year out she suggested that actually we have not put everything into module 2 because as soon as we start researching we’ll get new people that we’ll become interested in and they’ll lead to new developments and we can see things from their perspective that we can comply to our own practice.

We also discussed the question ‘how much information is too much information?’. With only four weeks of data collection it is important to keep the sense of wonder, we are not trying to answer a question here rather deepening the knowledge and understanding of our inquiry topics. We are looking to add to the conversation.

As we are in the beginning of week 2, I have already conducted some of my interviews. I found myself analysing what my interviewees were saying as soon as they were saying it, I was already making notes during the interview and writing in the way I would for my analysis. It is important that I do not do this and simply just listen to the interviews and read the literature with an open mind and then once the data collection has concluded go in and analyse the information. We just need to let it happen, ‘don’t judge it, don’t critique it whilst you’re in it’ was brilliant advice from Helen. In order to be open to what people’s responses might be when talking to them I just have to simply listen to them and allow myself each stage of the process without trying to map out or decide what the pictures going to be at the end.
